Shane Gillis Learns Tate McRae’s Name Isn’t Actually ‘Tane McRane’ in New ‘SNL’ Promos

Both Shane Gillis and Tate McRae are retuning to Saturday Night Live for a second time, as host and musical guest, respectively. However, Gillis was a little confused about the “Sports Car” singer’s name in a hilarious new promo for this weekend’s episode.

At one point in the clip, SNL cast member Jane Wickline points out to Gillis that their names rhyme. “That’s true,” the comedian replies. “Shane, Jane and Tane McRane.”

“My name’s Tate McRae,” the pop star clarifies, to which Gillis responds, “So Tane of you.” McRae lets out a little laugh before the scene cuts.

McRae is fresh off the release of her third studio album, So Close to What. The project features previously released viral singles “It’s ok I’m ok,” “Sports Car” and “2 Hands,” as well as a collaboration with Flo Milli titled “Bloodonmyhands.” Additionally, the album includes a collaboration with McRae’s boyfriend, The Kid Laroi, titled “I Know Love.”

The Canadian-born star previously made her Saturday Night Live debut in November 2023, with Jason Momoa as the pre-Thanksgiving episode’s host. She performed two songs, “Greedy” and “Grave,” to promote her then-upcoming sophomore album, Think Later.

Watch the promo below, and catch the full Saturday Night Live episode on March 1 at 11:30 p.m. ET on NBC, before it begins streaming on Peacock.
