Girl In Red has shared a brand-new single titled ‘Confession’ – listen to it below.

The stripped-back, intimate track finds the Norwegian singer-songwriter (real name Marie Ulven) in a vulnerable and introspective mindset, and it is reminiscent of her lo-fi earlier work.

Clocking in at under one-mintute-30-seconds, the song marks Ulven’s first solo material since her 2024 album ‘Doing It Again Baby!’.

There’s a part of me nostalgic/ For all that has been/ There’s a part of me that knows/ I wouldn’t do it again,” Girl In Red ponders in hushed vocals over a raw, acoustic instrumental.

There’s a part of me that feels/ That I am reaching my end/ There’s a part of me that knows/ It’s my time to go/ I don’t know if I can wake up/ Tomorrow morning/ And face my soul.”

According to a press release, fans can expect more from Girl In Red “soon”. Check out the official ‘Confession’ lyric video here:

The artist had teased the new single on social media last week, when she shared a brief snippet and revealed the lyrics.

Girl In Red is set to appear at numerous European festivals this summer, including Rock Werchter and Øya. She’ll also open for Olivia Rodrigo at her BST Hyde Park show in London this June. Next month, the musician will play various dates in Mexico and South America.

Meanwhile, Ulven is due to make her feature-length acting debut in the forthcoming film Low Expectations. She’ll play lead character Maja – a 29-year-old artist who finds herself at breaking point following years of intense success.

The new movie is being produced by Maipo Film in Norway, in collaboration with Snowglobe in Denmark. It’ll serve as the first feature from Norwegian director Eivind Landsvik.

In a three-star review, NME described ‘Doing It Again Baby!’ as a “fine album; it’s fun and sweet, if a little bland”. It added: “It’s a pristine pop record that takes few risks and leaves little room for error – though it might be more interesting if it did.”

Speaking to NME around the time of its release, Girl In Red spoke about including a country breakdown on the record, and explained why she was trying out new sounds.

“Just because it’s fun! I feel like on this album, I just want to have fun and I just want to do things because they’re fun,” she said.

“And also sonically, I was like – this is fucking cool. It’s fucking sick. I’m just going with my intuition mostly. I can’t read scores or notes, I don’t know anything musically other than what I feel.”

She added: “It’s so funny with the fucking banjo coming in. And then the top line being all, ‘I’m loving this new self-esteem’. It’s just ballsy, big dick energy. I just fuck with it. And also, Beyoncé just made a country song, so it’s contemporary.”
