South Korean director Bong Joon-ho, behind movies such as Mickey 17 and Parasite, has named BLACKPINK as his favourite K-pop group.

In support of Mickey 17’s upcoming premiere, South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho recently made an appearance on the Buzzfeed YouTube series The Puppy Interview. During his time on the series, the director was quizzed about several things, including who his favourite K-pop group are.

“BLACKPINK,” he answered. When asked about his favourite member, he said, “Rosé. Jisoo, Jennie, everyone.” Bong was also told by a producer on the show that Rosé was also a recent guest on the series. “Oh, is that so? This is such a great show, and here I am ruining it. Such beautiful people were supposed to be here,” he joked.

Bong’s new film Mickey 17, starring Robert Pattinson, will premiere on March 7. The movie is an adaptation of Edward Ashton’s 2022 novel Mickey7, and will follow Mickey Barnes, a man who signs up to be an “expendable”, a human that can regenerate after death, but finds multiple versions of himself confronting each other after a space expedition goes wrong.

Mickey 17 is also notably Bong’s first directorial effort since Parasitewhich took home Best Picture at the Oscars in 2020 and went on to become the highest-grossing Korean film in history. In a glowing five-star review of Parasite, Rhian Daly wrote for NME: “Part of the brilliance of Parasite is that, while this is an ‘us vs them’ story, it doesn’t pick a side. Instead, Bong puts the flaws of both families on full display.”
