‘Severance’ fans are crashing the real-life office where it’s filmed
Severance fans have descended on the real-life office where the Apple TV+ series is filmed.
Bell Works, the former Bell Laboratories research centre in Holmdel, New Jersey is the setting for the show’s fictional Lumon Industries, where severed employees work in the series.
Unlike the show, the building is actually where mobile phone communications were born and a lot of laser and fiber-optic technology were developed. In 2013, the building was repurposed into a modern mixed-use space with offices, retail stores, restaurants and event venues, reopening as Bell Works.
Due to the series’ popularity, many fans have been visiting the building and posting videos on social media, which you can view below.

At @bellworks , we enjoy each floor equally – you can see a few here. Innies & Outies are welcome to explore Bell Works, the reimagined Bell Labs building in Holmdel, NJ designed by Eero Saarinen.
… but in all seriousness! What an honor, as Lead Designer & Creative Director of Bell Works, to see my favorite place on the big screen and getting so much well-deserved hype for @appletv Severance. Bravo

Meanwhile, Severance director Ben Stiller recently revealed that Barack Obama was asked to be the voice of the Lumon building in the hit show.
During the ‘Lumon Is Listening’ video, Keanu Reeves voices a cartoon version of the Lumon building, which is shown to staff in an attempt to prove to them that the company cares about them.
But Stiller said that Obama was actually his first choice. “It was a very short list of people. There was one person that I asked before (Keanu Reeves), and he said no: President Barack Obama,” he said.
Stiller recalled the process of getting in touch with the former president, adding: “I didn’t ask him in person. I knew someone who knew his lawyer, and his lawyer said ‘I can relay the request, would you write an email?’ So I wrote an email to him.”
He continued: “Two days later, I get an email back from President Barack Obama saying: ‘Hey Ben, big fan of the show, love season one, can’t wait for season two. Don’t think I have time in my schedule to make this happen.'”
Severance has been winning rave reviews from fans, with a recent episode being hailed as a “masterpiece”. Recently, Odesza shared an eight hour “music to refine to” mix from the show.
NME also awarded the current show five stars and said the “mind-bending workplace sci-fi is the smartest thing on TV.”
