Tool booed over “disappointing” show at own festival: “So much for the ‘two unique sets’ we were promised”
Tool have been booed over their two sets at their Tool In The Sand festival in the Dominican Republic.
The band kicked off their first-ever destination music bash in the Caribbean this past weekend (March 7) in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic across two resorts; the Hard Rock and Royalton resorts. The stacked line-up for the fest featured the likes of Primus, Coheed and Cambria, Mastodon, and more. Tool were slated to perform two headlining slots.
Maynard James Keenan and co. played an electrifying set on March 7 with a variety of tracks from their discography including tracks such as ‘Schism’, ‘Stinkfist’ and ‘Vicarious’. However, it appears that during their second set the following night (March 8) fans were not impressed by what the band had in store for them.
After having promised fans “two unique sets”, the band did not break out an entirely different setlist on the second night, leaving some fans disappointed and annoyed. During their second headlining slot, Tool only played a nine-song set, with some of the songs being repeats from the night before leading to the audience booing them.

One fan recounted his experience on Reddit and wrote: “Tool plays an epic show in the Dominican Republic. Asking fans to fly to the DR for three nights of music with two nights of Tool as the headliner. The show costing an exorbitant amount hoping for a great two nights of music.
“Tool planned to play an hour and a half each night. The first night did not disappoint. Many great songs that fans were dying to hear. The second night started with a surprise. As far as I know you could not purchase tickets to one night of the show. Meaning that everyone here was here for two nights hoping to see an epic no repeat set.”
They then explained that the second evening was filled with repeats from the night before, leaving many upset and disappointed.

“Why fly to the DR on a three night ticket to watch an hour of repeat songs from the night before? Not sure what to say but this was a very disappointing show. Especially for the cost. To pay to see a show and it turn out to be two of the same show was a major bummer. I will never pay to see them again which is very disappointing,” they added.
Another Reddit user blamed the band’s frontman and their guitarist Adam Jones for the unsatisfactory sets and wrote: “I can’t believe people are just now figuring out that Maynard and Adam are assholes lol. Not like ‘lol they troll interviewers’ assholes. Like, true fucking money-grubbing rich assholes. They do not care about you! I’m so glad I got my Tool tattoo covered up.”
A fan took to the band’s Facebook page and wrote: “So much for the ‘two unique sets’ we were promised.”
