‘Call Of Duty’ players aren’t happy about the return of classic ‘Warzone’ map Verdansk
To celebrate the fifth anniversary of Call Of Duty: Warzone, developers confirmed the return of OG map Verdansk – however a lot of fans aren’t happy.
The revived Call Of Duty: Warzone was launched back in 2020 and the battle royale game has evolved a lot over the past few years. However to celebrate its fifth anniversary, developers are bringing back the beloved Verdansk map.
The original Warzone map will be reintroduced as part of Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6’s third season, which goes live April 3. The news was revealed in a cinematic trailer, soundtracked by Nat King Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’.
The video has racked up more than 9.5million views in less than 24 hours but a number of fans aren’t happy. The top-rated comment on YouTube reads, “At this point, just open the Warzone 1 servers”. Another says: “To everyone out there: let’s make it clear to Activision—we don’t just want Verdansk back. We want everything back. The movement, the mechanics, the graphics, the sounds, the vehicles. We want OG Warzone. The game that made us stay up all night!”
It’s a similar story on Reddit. “I hate to be pessimistic, but if this company has taught me anything, it’s to be pessimistic about everything they say/do,” wrote one player. “For those expecting a lovely walk down memory lane, I’m afraid they’ll be disappointed. The map might be the same, but it will also be the same crappy servers, same bugs and same cheating base they have now.”

“It’s also important to remember movement, guns, and even vehicles/durability are massively different than in OG so even if it’s the same map, it isn’t gonna be anywhere near the same which will definitely take away from the fun that the original brought,” added another.
Some players are worried that if the return of Verdansk doesn’t reignite interest in Warzone, developers may shut down the online multiplayer game. Fortnite saw an increase in players with the launch of Fortnite OG and the temporary feature was eventually made a permanent addition last year.
In other news, it’s been reported Xbox could be releasing a handheld console later this year to rival the Switch 2, while a successor to the Xbox Series X/S is planned for 2027
