‘Silent Hill’ trigger warning has fans very excited for new game

Silent Hill f trigger warning

Silent Hill developer Konami has shared a content warning for the upcoming Silent Hill f – and fans are very excited.

Silent Hill f was first announced back in 2022 but fans were given a proper look at the psychological horror last week with a brand new trailer and an updated description of the game.

“In 1960s Japan, teenager Shimizu Hinako lives in the small, remote town of Ebisugaoka, nestled in a mountain pass. An average teen, she passes the time with nothing particularly special about her life. Until, that is, a deep fog descends on Ebisugaoka, and everything Hinako knows crumbles as she finds her once-familiar home infested with spreading danger, the town empty except for the horrors teeming in the fog.”

Following the reveal, Konami updated the Silent Hill f website with a new content warning. “Please read before playing:  This game contains depictions of gender discrimination, child abuse, bullying, drug-induced hallucinations, torture, and graphic violence,” it read. “This game is set in Japan in the 1960s and contains depictions based on the customs and culture of that time. These depictions do not reflect the opinions or values of the developers or any individuals involved.

“If you feel uncomfortable at any point while playing, please take a break from playing or speak to someone you trust,” the trigger warning concluded.

“It sounds like we might be getting the darkest and perhaps most controversial entry in the series. The fact that they’re even putting that type of warning out makes me think that they’re going to lean really hard into those issues instead of pulling punches,” wrote one fan on Reddit, with others also excited about the Ryukishi07-penned game.

“If a Silent Hill game has a ‘careful: Shit’s hardcore, bitch’ then it will probably be a 10/10 game,” said another. “I’ve seen a few Japanese art horrors and OMG, they have a special kind of darkness, brutality, cruelty and fear. This is gonna be crazy good game,” added a third.

“To this day, I remember the feeling of my first encounter with the suffocating and oppressive atmosphere of Silent Hill. It still deeply haunts me, and it still utterly fascinates me,” said Ryukishi07. “To me, the Silent Hill series is more than just a collection of stories, it’s a medium; an amazing, phenomenal way of exploring and experiencing a person’s heart and mind. It’s my hope that players out there will come to appreciate it in the same way.”

A release date for Silent Hill f has yet to be announced but it will be launching later this year for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.

In other news, Star Wars: Hunters, a free-to-play squad shooter, is being shut down less than a year after it first launched.
