Internet sleuths think they’ve worked out when the Switch 2 will be released

Internet sleuths believe they’ve worked out when Nintendo will be releasing the Switch 2 – and it’s sooner than you might think.

Nintendo officially unveiled the Switch 2 earlier this year with a hardware-focused teaser trailer. Details such as price, launch titles and release date have yet to be announced but more information is expected next month when Nintendo hosts a dedicated Switch 2 Direct presentation on April 2.

Following that, fans will be able to try out the console in a series of global, hands-on test events between April 4 and May 11.

However internet sleuths believe they’ve worked out when the Switch 2 will be released. Taking to X, ThunderStashYT shared his theory that the Switch 2 will be launching on May 15. “This isn’t just speculation. No ‘insider sources,’ no leaks; just logic, patterns, and solid research from the community,” he explained.

According to the viral post, a May 15 release is likely because it’s a few days after the first wave of hands-on test events will have wrapped up, with the second wave starting May 31. “This gap strongly suggests Nintendo is using this time to launch the Switch 2, as there’s no reason to halt momentum unless it’s for a major event,” wrote ThunderStashYT.

Last week, it was reported that more than 383,000 Switch 2 units had already shipped to North America. “You don’t ship out nearly 400,000 units just to let them sit in a warehouse; that costs Nintendo money and increases the risk of leaks,” he explained.  Other clues reportedly pointing to the May 15 launch include the release of the Mario Kart LEGO collab and the opening of the Nintendo San Francisco store, which are both set to take place the same day.

“And have you noticed that May’s game release calendar is suspiciously light? Big games tend to avoid launching near a major console release. Right now, May is looking like a ghost town… maybe that’s because the Switch 2’s launch lineup is missing,” the post continued.

However another insider has reported the Switch 2 won’t be released until June. So far, Nintendo has confirmed the console will be out at some point this year, but hasn’t given a more specific release window.

Earlier this year, Nintendo bosses said the new console would be “affordable” and the company had taken a number of measures to prevent scalping.

In other news, a number of Monster Hunter Wilds fans have tried to recreate the game’s delicious-looking meals in real life.
