Ed Sheeran played a surprise pop-up show at King’s Cross station in London on Friday (April 4) – check out the footage and images below.

The singer-songwriter treated passers-by to a six-song acoustic set, including a performance of his new single ‘Azizam’. He also dusted off ‘Castle On The Hill’, ‘Shivers’, ‘Perfect’, ‘Shape Of You’ and ‘Bad Habits’, according to Setlist.FM.

Per a press release, Sheeran celebrated his return by treating a group of fans to a gig on the top of a pink double-decker bus across central London ahead of his appearance outside King’s Cross.

The performances are said to have captured “the spirit” of the artist’s upcoming new album ‘Play’, which is “all about fun, connection and bringing people together”.

“After a whirlwind of stadium shows around the world, where personal fan interactions can be rare, this event gave Ed a chance to connect on a more intimate level with his supporters,” a description read.

“It’s a connection he plans to continue throughout the ‘Play’ campaign.”

Fans have since been sharing footage of the impromptu King’s Cross performance on social media, with one writing: “Walk out of King’s Cross and get a 40min gig of Ed Sheeran. World works in mysterious ways.”

Another said: “Friday lunchtime and Ed Sheeran is playing outside King’s Cross!”

Someone else shared: “Just a casual morning on a bus with @edsheeran followed by a free gig. WILD.”

Sharing a video of the performances on Instagram, Sheeran wrote: “Painted a red London bus pink and did a gig around the city today.

“I loved seeing all the reactions of people on the street bopping to ‘Azizam’. ‘Play’ is playful and fun, and today was awesome. Thanks for all the love x.”

The official ‘Azizam’ music video follows Sheeran as he embarks on a joyful journey across the US and UK with a pink, heart-shaped balloon. It includes a visit to his beloved Ipswich Town FC, and footage of his recent surprise street performance in New Orleans.

‘Play’ will follow 2023’s ‘Subtract’ and ‘Autumn Variations’. It’ll see Sheeran “stepping boldly into a fresh new phase for 2025”, having collaborated with producers and writers from across the globe on his upcoming album.

Sheeran confirmed that his new album was “done” last month. He later debuted a new song called ‘Old Phone’ during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. As part of an interview on the US chart show, he revealed the titles of his next five studio records, and teased plans for a posthumous album.

“I wanted to do 10 [albums],” he explained. “I’m kind of a bit obsessed with [Quentin] Tarantino, and I heard he was doing 10 films, and he’s got his side projects like Grindhouse. I wanna do my 10 and then every now and then do a side project.”

Elsewhere, Sheeran confirmed that a new track called ‘Sapphire’ would be released in the coming months.

In other news, it has been revealed that Sheeran will play an intimate set at Coachella 2025 next weekend.
