Taylor Swift lands the biggest-selling new vinyl release of the decade
Taylor Swift has three albums amongst the top four best-selling vinyl albums of the last decade, with her 2022 project ‘Midnights’ topping the list.
Ahead of Record Store Day 2025, taking place on April 12, the Official Charts Company released data on the best-selling vinyl albums from the last decade. Last year 6.7million vinyl albums were sold, marking an almost a five-fold increase from 1994.
Swift’s album ‘Midnights’ heads the vinyl charts with 129,000 sales, with her 2024 and 2023 offerings ‘The Tortured Poet’s Department’ and ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version), respectively, also in the running in the top 10.
Also on the list were Harry Styles, Ed Sheeran, Billie Eilish, David Bowie and Tame Impala.

Official biggest vinyl new releases of the past decade:
1 – ‘Midnights’ – Taylor Swift
2 – ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ – Taylor Swift
3 – ‘Harry’s House’ – Harry Styles
4 – ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ – Taylor Swift
5 – ‘Legacy’ – David Bowie
6 – ‘Fine Line’ – Harry Styles
7 – ‘Divide’ – Ed Sheeran
8 – ‘Blackstar’ – David Bowie
9- ‘When We Fall Asleep Where Do We Go’ – Billie Eilish

As Music Week reports, it is important to note the impact of evergreen catalogue on vinyl sales, which are not represented in this list. Recently revealed statistics from ERA show that catalogue is still the main driver of vinyl sales, despite the impact of contemporary pop acts with new releases.
2025 marks the 18th edition of Record Store Day and it will feature over 270 independent record shops around the country, as well as thousands more globally. As is the standard, there will also be a series of in-store parties and a celebration of independent record store culture.
Last year’s edition of Record Store Day was held on April 20 and saw releases from The 1975, David Bowie, Daft Punk, Talking Heads, Paramore, Blur, Lily Allen, Gorillaz, Elton John, Paramore and Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds.
In other 2025 Record Store Day-related news, a select group of the UK’s vinyl shops are set to be profiled in a new YouTube series. Titled Behind The Counter, the 12-part series is premiering every Tuesday leading up to Record Store Day itself – and each episode will showcase the vibrant culture surrounding a different independent record shop.
Elsewhere, Key Production Group has rolled out a recycling scheme for unplayable vinyl and CDs backed by UK indie record shops. Vinyl records and CDs are made from different types of plastic – vinyl from polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and CDs polycarbonate – both of which can take hundreds of years to decompose in landfills.
