Which 2005 Song Is Your Favorite? Vote!
It’s 2005. George W. Bush is the president of the United States, Juicy Couture tracksuits and American Idol are all the rage, and thanks to Gwen Stefani, everyone has a fun new way of remembering how to spell the word “bananas.” And the rest? It’s still unwritten.
This week, Billboard is throwing it back two decades to celebrate a truly iconic year that — though lost forever now in the grand expanse of time — remains deeply impactful in terms of pop culture and, more specifically, music. Not only did 2005 mark a high point for pop-punk and post-grunge rock, but it also saw an explosion of R&B and hip-hop on the charts that made for a Top 40 shakeup that continues to have reverberations today. Just take a look at the Billboard staff’s 100 Best Songs of 2025 list published Tuesday (April 15) — from The Killers to Mariah Carey, Kanye West and Missy Elliott, the pivotal year’s canon of hits was truly a melting pot of genres, styles and sounds that still feels relevant 20 years later.
And now that you know our picks for the best hits of the time, Billboard wants to know yours. Are you someone who resonates with Rihanna’s pleas to Mr. DJ to turn that music up? Do you, like Natasha Bedingfield, also stare at the blank page before you and ponder releasing your inhibitions? Does The Killers’ “Mr. Brightside” still have you coming out of your cage, feeling just fine?
No matter your favorite, destiny is calling you. Open up your eager eyes and cast your vote for your top 2005 track below.
