Haley Joel Osment has apologised for using “disgraceful language” after being filmed using an antisemitic slur during his public intoxication arrest.

Last week, news emerged that the former child star had been arrested at a ski resort in Mammoth Lakes, California. As reported by Entertainment Weekly, The Sixth Sense and A.I.: Artificial Intelligence actor was identified by the local police department as an “unruly skier” and was held by ski patrol until police arrived to arrest him.

The cause of the arrest was said to be alleged public intoxication and possession of an unidentified controlled substance. Last Thursday (April 17), the Mono County District Attorney’s office said he was charged with possession of cocaine and disorderly conduct, and his arraignment is scheduled for June 7, per People.

Osment also gave the publication a statement apologising for the “disgraceful language” used during his arrest, after bodycam footage showed him calling an arresting officer a “fucking Nazi”, and, once in the patrol car, can be heard hurling an anti-Semitic slur at the officer.

“I’m absolutely horrified by my behavior. Had I known I used this disgraceful language in the throes of a blackout, I would have spoken up sooner,” Osment in a statement. “The past few months of loss and displacement have broken me down to a very low emotional place.”

Osment lost his home in the destructive Eaton Fire back in January, following the devastating wildfires that left more than 12,000 structures destroyed after 150,000 residents were evacuated to safety.

“But that’s no excuse for using this disgusting word,” he continued. “From the bottom of my heart, I apologize to absolutely everyone that this hurts. What came out of my mouth was nonsensical garbage – I’ve let the Jewish community down and it devastates me. I don’t ask for anyone’s forgiveness, but I promise to atone for my terrible mistake.”

The actor, who turned 37 last week, earned an Oscar nomination at the age of 11 for his role as Cole Sear, the child who could see dead people in M. Night Shyamalan’s hit 1999 movie The Sixth Sense.

As an adult, Osment has continued acting, appearing in shows such as What We Do In The Shadows and Silicon Valley, while he also starred in Zoe Kravitz’ acclaimed psychological thriller Blink Twice in 2024, alongside Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Christian Slater and Kyle MacLachlan.

He is also scheduled to take up a role in the upcoming second season of Netflix’s hit series Wednesday, and he is currently appearing in season two of Poker Face.

Last year, he spoke of his memories of coming home to voicemail messages from his Sixth Sense co-star Bruce Willis in the years following the film.

Osment also responded to being namechecked by Kendrick Lamar on the Drake diss track ‘Euphoria’ last year. “Am I battlin’ ghost or AI?” Kendrick quipped in the song’s second verse. “N**** feelin’ like Joel Osteen/ Funny, he was in a film called A.I./ And my sixth sense tellin’ me to off him.”

“I was shooting in Ireland when all that happened, and I got like a hundred texts in the middle of the night, and I was like, ‘What is going on?’,” he said. Asked whether he thought K.Dot knew that the two similarly-named people were not the same, he added: “I think that it’s an intentional scrambling of my name and that other guy’s name, because Kendrick’s too precise to just make a mistake like that, I think.”
