Paul Rudd has recreated his vintage advert for the Super Nintendo in order to promote the upcoming Switch 2

In 1991, Paul Rudd starred in an advert for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). The clip saw the actor turning up to an abandoned drive-in movie theatre, before playing F-Zero, SimCity, The Legend Of Zelda: A Link To The Past and Super Play Action Football on the big screen.

“When you decide to step up to this kind of power, this kind of challenge, this kind of feeling, when you decide to get serious, there’s only one place to come – the games of Super Nintendo,” said a voiceover. “No one else creates this kind of experience, because no one else creates these kinds of games.”

The vintage advert went viral late last year and was re-uploaded to Nintendo’s official YouTube channel over the weekend. Now the company has shared a remake to promote the launch of the Switch 2.

“Nintendo and Paul Rudd have a history of launching systems together. So, 3 decades later, we’re getting together again. SUPER TOGETHER,” Nintendo posted on X alongside the new ad.

“Nintendo reached out to me and I got a real kick out of the idea,” Rudd said in an interview with IGN about the collab. He went on to say recreating the advert made him miss the ‘90s. “It made me nostalgic in all the right ways.”

The Nintendo Switch 2 is due for release June 5 with Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza available at launch, alongside a number of enhanced Switch titles and a number of classic Gamecube games. Despite the excitement around the bigger, more powerful console, a number of fans are furious about the “insane” price of some games, with Mario Kart World due to cost £74.99. Defending the cost, Nintendo explained it would be using a “variable” pricing strategy for the Switch 2.

However last week, a new Direct for Mario Kart World had some fans demanding Nintendo “raise the price” of the game.

In other news, Fortnite has confirmed it will be launching a full Star Wars-inspired season next month that will include fan-favourite character Darth Jar Jar.
