A new ‘Frostpunk’ game is in the works

The team behind Frostpunk has confirmed two new games are currently being developed following the success of Frostpunk 2.

The original Frostpunk was released in 2018. The city-builder survival game was set in an alternate timeline where humans were struggling to survive during a worldwide volcanic winter. Players were tasked with managing the resources of a huge city and the politics that came alongside that power. After numerous delays, a sequel was finally released at the end of 2024.

During a recent earnings call, developers 11 Bit Arcade confirmed two new Frostpunk games were in the works.

The report claims that last year, 11 Bit Arcade’s revenue increased 169 per cent “marking the highest sales in the company’s history”.

“The sharp increase in 11 Bit Studios’ revenue in 2024 was primarily driven by new game releases during the period, led by Frostpunk 2,” the report continues. By the end of December, 592,000 copies of Frostpunk 2 had been sold “generating revenue of £14 million”.

Legacy titles like the original Frostpunk and The War Of Mine also generated more than £7million for the company.  “This clearly demonstrates that 11 Bit Studios creates outstanding games with extended lifespans,” added Przemysław Marszał, the president of the studio.

Marszal went on to say 11 Bit Studios was going to “diversify both the scale of our projects and their development timelines” and would be trying to “capitalise on near-term, financially attractive opportunities”.

“This underlies our decision to initiate production on the next project set in the Frostpunk universe, which we plan to launch as early as 2027,” he added. “In parallel, we have commenced development on a larger-scale title, targeted for release in 2029.”

They’re not giving up on Frostpunk 2 just yet though, with the game set to come to consoles later this year alongside a number of planned expansions. “We have barely begun monetising this title,” said Marszal. “We hope that upcoming DLCs, including new gameplay features, will improve the ratings Frostpunk 2 has received from players.”

When it launched, Frostpunk 2 was praised as a “complex, compelling” city-builder and currently has a “mostly positive” rating on Steam.

In other news, PinkPantheress has revealed they’re a huge fan of Red Dead Redemption 2 and is currently playing the “fire” co-op game Split Fiction.
