Which New Music Release Is Your Favorite This Week? Vote!
Capping off a month of excellent new music releases, Lorde, Benson Boone, Megan Thee Stallion and several more artists have entered the chat for the last New Music Friday of April.
Starting off strong with a certain New Zealand-born pop star, the arrival of Lorde’s comeback single “What Was That” on Thursday (April 24) finally ended the four-year drought between now and the release of Solar Power in 2021. Paired with a DIY music video featuring shots of the singer frolicking through New York City and dancing with fans at a meetup in Washington Square Park, the turbulent synth-pop track finds Lorde returning to the party she first attended on 2017’s Melodrama as an older, wiser, more emotionally in-tune version of herself.
The next day came a flood of other new tracks from big stars, including Boone’s latest stab at matching the success of Billboard Hot 100 smash “Beautiful Things.” Interpolating Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical” in the chorus, “Mystical Magical” gives fans a taste of what’s to come on the singer-songwriter’s June 20-slated album, American Heart.
Also on Friday, Ms. Stallion dropped her latest Hot Girl Anthem, “Whenever,” her first release since October’s Megan: Act II. On the song, the rapper reminds you that it’s never a good idea to try and square up with her, spitting, “It’s whenever, bitch it’s whatever, ho/ We can do it right now, b—h, take it out the door.”
And on top of those three stand-out singles, Young Thug teamed up with Future for “Money on Money,” Coco Jones finally dropped her debut album Why Not More, and everyone from Tucker Wetmore to D4vd and Samia released LPs for fans to dive into.
As always, there’s almost too much to choose from, but Billboard still wants to know: Which new music release of the week is your favorite? Tell us by casting your vote below.
