Erica Banks Shuts Down Claims That She Sounds Like Other Rappers After GloRilla Comparisons

Erica Banks is clearing the air about allegations she sounds like other rappers, including the most recent comparisons to GloRilla.

The “Buss It” rapper hopped on X on Thursday (April 23) to push back against assumptions she’s trying to sound like other female rappers. “I don’t sound like anyone,” she wrote in her post. “I hate when y’all say that. If you’ve been listening to my music since 2020, you know I’ve always had my own sound. Please just love on your favorite artist without forcing the thought of me sounding like them or anyone else.”

While this may not be a direct response, Banks’ tweets come after fans began to note Banks latest song had stylistic similarities to GloRilla. Fans noted the similarities after Banks teased her new song “On My Face.” GloRilla herself hasn’t responded to any of the comparisons.

Banks has faced similar accusations in the past. In a 2024 interview, Banks spoke about the flood of comparisons she got to Megan Thee Stallion. The comparisons came after Banks had freestyled over Gucci Mane’s “I Think I Love Her” beat around the same time Meg did during her #MeganMonday freestyle.

“Everybody can do a freestyle on whatever beat they choose, but it’s a big difference between me and you,” Banks said at the time, quoting Nicki Minaj.

As for GloRilla, she’ll soon headline this year’s Summer Jam alongside Muni Long and A Boogie, which takes place on June 20 at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.
