MONSTA X drop new mini-album ‘Reason’ and fiery visual for lead single ‘Beautiful Liar’
K-pop boyband MONSTA X have returned with a fierce music video for their new single ‘Beautiful Liar’
On January 9 at 6pm KST, the boyband made a long-awaited comeback with their 12th mini-album ‘Reason’, led by the new single ‘Beautiful Liar’. The song notably includes lyrics penned by members Hyungwon, Joohoney and I.M.
In the accompanying visual for ‘Beautiful Liar’, which dropped at the same time, the members of MONSTA X put on a powerful performance of the new single from an abandoned warehouse as it catches on fire. Elsewhere in the video, they stumble through a faceless crowd as they reckon with their conflicting emotions.
“Just like how your cold eyes play with me / I get attracted to that irrejectable beautiful lie / At the end of your red tongue, like the colour of blood,” they sing in the chorus.
‘Reason’ includes five B-sides, four of which had been co-written and -composed by the members of MONSTA X. These include tracks ‘Crecsendo’, ‘LONE RANGER’, ‘Deny’ and ‘It’s Okay’. Production of the record’s second track ‘Daydream’ did not involve the group.
The new record comes eight months following MONSTA X’s latest domestic comeback ‘Shape Of Love’. That mini-album was led by the title track ‘Love’ and dropped on April 26, 2022 following a two-week delay after several members of the group caught COVID-19 ahead of its original release date.
‘Reason’ is also first new music since rapper I.M departed longtime agency Starship Entertainment in August. The 26-year-old rapper has since signed an exclusive contract with Sony Music Korea for his solo activities, though he remains an active member of MONSTA X.
In October 2022, the group’s main vocalist Kihyun made his first comeback as a soloist with a five-track mini-album titled ‘Youth’. That record came about seven months after he debuted with the single ‘Voyager’ in March 2022.
