Labrinth Reveals His Favorite British Slang | Billboard News
Labrinth chatted with Billboard News and talked about some of his favorite British slang!
LABRINTH:
Hey guys, my name is Labrinth, and this is my favorite British slang.
The first one is “headtop.” If you come into my studio and you hear a banging beat, I’m going to be like, “Yo, what do you think of the song?” and you go “headtop.” And that means like, it’s so crazy that it’s taking your head off. We got a “mad thing.” And this one makes me laugh because my missus, she’s grew up in Denmark, and she thought we were actually saying mud, but Patois Jamaicans would say “mad” as “mud” is a “mud thing cus…” and so when you say “mud,” it means that “it’s a crazy thing,” “this thing is wild.” So we say “poppin’ off.” So let’s say Labrinth after Coachella, people are like, “This guy’s poppin’ off,” that means that your “success is growing” or people are starting to kind of see who you are.
