‘Hotline Miami 1’ and ‘2’ players get PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrade for free
Hotline Miami and Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number have received native releases for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and they’re available for free if players already own the games.
Revealed in a trailer released on October 23, the current-generation console versions of the two games can be purchased separately or together in the Hotline Miami Collection bundle. Check it out below:
On the PlayStation Store, Hotline Miami is priced at £7.99, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is priced at £11.99 and the bundle is priced at £15.99.
The upgraded games are slightly more expensive on the Microsoft Store – the first game at £8.39, the second game at £12.49 and the bundle at £16.74. Yet, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S versions are free for those who have the games in their library.
Developer Dennaton Games and publisher Devolver Digital released Hotline Miami in 2012 and the shooter was welcomed with acclaim. As a spiritual successor to Super Carnage, the player is tasked with the elimination of enemies in each level, however they are as vulnerable to attacks as their foes are.
As such, death is a core cog in the game’s machinations. In spite of this, the player slowly but surely gathers knowledge of the set ups in the levels and is able to improve their approach.
They are scored on aspects like speed, variation and recklessness and high scores are rewarded with new weapons and masks.
The cult-classic shooter is thought to be one of the greatest games ever made, and its sequel fleshes out the events of the original with scenes set before, during and after protagonist Jacket’s journey.
But, the reception of the second game was much more varied among critics, though almost all agreed that the soundtrack was on par with the original’s.
A third game is not on the agenda for Dennaton Games, as it characterised Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number as the conclusion of the story.
In other gaming news, an Alien: Isolation modder has turned the Xenomorph into Thomas The Tank Engine for a seasonally appropriate scare for Halloween.
