Green Day announce album ‘Saviors’ and share new single
Green Day have shared details of a new album ‘Saviors’, and dropped a new single titled ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’. Check it out below.
Announced today (October 24), the forthcoming album will mark the 14th studio LP by the pop-punk trio, and their first full-length release since 2020’s ‘Father Of All Motherfuckers’. It is set for release on January 19, 2024, via Reprise/Warner and is available for pre-order here.
To mark the upcoming release, the band – comprising Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool – have also shared a brand new single from the LP, a fiery, punk-inspired track titled ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’.
Officially shared today, the members first teased the new track last week when they gave the then-unreleased song its live debut in an intimate Las Vegas show. Held at the 1,000-capacity Fremont Country Club venue, the gig served as a warm-up for their headline sets at When We Were Young festival this past weekend and saw them break out the new song.
According to the band, ‘The American Dream Is Killing Me’ was one of the last to be written and recorded for ‘Saviors’.
“As soon we cut it, we said, ‘Okay, that’s going first,’” said Armstrong, who described the new song as “a look at the way the traditional American Dream doesn’t work for a lot of people – in fact, it’s hurting a lot of people.”
It also comes alongside a film noir-inspired visual accompaniment – directed by Brendan Walter and Ryan Baxley – which sees the band in the midst of a zombie apocalypse. Check it out below.
Set for release next year, ‘Saviors’ will be available in multiple physical formats and limited-edition vinyl colourways. It also sees the trio team up with Grammy-winning producer Rob Cavallo, who also worked with them on two of their most iconic albums: 1994’s ‘Dookie’ and 2004’s ‘American Idiot’.
News of the band’s 14th studio album arrives ahead of the 30th anniversary of the band’s 1994 classic ‘Dookie’. Celebrations for the milestone have already begun, and have so far seen Armstrong and co. share a massive deluxe edition of the album, as well as play the tracklist in full at the aforementioned Las Vegas show.
In other Green Day news, the members also announced details of a US headline tour, set to kick off next year and feature support from The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid and The Linda Lindas. They teased that UK and EU dates are set to be announced at a later date.
Additionally, on Sunday (October 22) – during the second of their two nights headlining When We Were Young 2023 – the band also made the live debut of another not-yet-released track titled ‘Look Ma, No Brains!’.
Their next scheduled performance will take place on Thursday (October 26) as part of Amazon Music Live’s concert series. On November 19, they will also headline the Twisted Tea Grey Cup Halftime Show, for the 110th Grey Cup at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario.
