Britney Spears Says Her Book Is ‘the Highest Selling Celebrity Memoir in History,’ Thanks Fans for Support
Britney Spears‘ long-awaited memoir, The Woman in Me, is finally out, and the pop star claims its sales are through the roof.
In an Instagram post Tuesday (Oct. 24), the same day Woman in Me was released, Spears took a moment to boast about the book’s success and thank her fans for supporting her latest endeavor. “It’s happening ✨🤓📖 !!!” the “Toxic” singer wrote, sharing a photo of the tome’s cover and tagline, “My story. On my terms. At last.”
According to Spears, her book is already “the highest selling celebrity memoir in history” on its first day on shelves. “And it’s only day 1 !!!” she added. “Thank you to the fans who have been so supportive !!! Love you all 🌹 !!!”
Billboard has reached out to Simon & Schuster, whose imprint Gallery Books published the pop star’s memoir, for comment. According to Amazon.com, The Woman in Me is the No. 1 on its list of most read and sold non-fiction books.
About 300 pages with an audio format narrated by actress Michelle Williams, The Woman in Me was first confirmed in July, with reports saying the publishing rights were auctioned off to Simon & Schuster for a whopping $15 million. Delving into details about Spears’ career, family, 13-year conservatorship and high profile relationships, the memoir included a number of bombshell revelations.
For one, the “Gimme More” musician claims she had an abortion while she was dating Justin Timberlake, whom she claims wasn’t ready to be a father. She also admits to having cheated on the *NSYNC singer once after finding out about his alleged affairs, and says he sent her a framed letter soon after breaking up with her over text.
Of her 55-hour marriage to Jason Alexander, Spears said she was “just honestly very drunk.” And of her fling with Colin Farrell, she wrote, “We wound up having a two-week brawl … Brawl is the only word for it — we were all over each other, grappling so passionately it was like we were in a street fight.”
As juicy as her love life secrets were, the Grammy winner also shed some light on some of her most polarizing music and performance choices over the years. For example, she was actually the creative mastermind behind her sexy schoolgirl “…Baby One More Time” music video; plus, it was she who made the call to ramp up her steamy 2003 VMAs smooch with Madonna from an air kiss to the viral moment it became.
