A ‘John Wick’ sequel series is reportedly in the works
A John Wick sequel TV series is reportedly in the works – find out more about the upcoming series below.
According to a Deadline Hollywood report, Lionsgate is currently working on a TV series titled John Wick: Under the High Table, that is set after the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. No network or streamer is attached to the series yet, as it is currently being shopped around.
Deadline reports that franchise star Keanu Reeves will executive produce for the series, though he will not star in the show. Franchise director Chad Stahelski will also executive produce, and both of them are reportedly “very hands-on” with the project. Stahelski will reportedly direct the first episode of Under the High Table.
A cast for the show has yet to be announced, but will follow a roster of new faces as they “look to make a name for themselves while some of the franchise stalwart characters remain committed to the old-world order”.
If picked up, John Wick: Under the High Table will be the second TV set in the John Wick franchise, following Peacock’s limited prequel series The Continental: From the World of John Wick. Under the High Table will reportedly not interfere with the production on a planned fifth John Wick film and the upcoming spinoff film Ballerina starring Ana de Armas.
In a four-star review of John Wick: Chapter 4 for NME, Jesse Hassenger wrote: “Chapter 4 doesn’t exude the wheel-spinning cynicism of a forever franchise. Stahelski may traffic in excess, but at least he understands it: how choreography, performance and style can make over-the-top spectacle cohere into pleasurably overwhelming action fizz, rather than congealing into a sweaty special effects overload. He also gets that after 169 minutes, some degree of closure is appreciated. There may well be a John Wick: Chapter 5, but Chapter 4 still feels like a movie giving its all.”
