A new Batman game from Rocksteady is on its way

Rocksteady is reportedly working on a new, single-player Batman game as Warner Bros. Games looks to focus on its core franchises.

Speaking in a financial call, Warner Bros. Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav addressed the troubled 12 months the company has faced with the poor performance of titles such as Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and the Super Smash Bros.-style brawler MultiVersus

“We recognise [the games business] is substantially underperforming its potential right now.” said Zaslav, before adding that Warner Bros. will now be doubling down on just four games: Hogwarts Legacy (a sequel is already in the works), Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC, “in particular Batman.”

“We are focusing our development efforts on those core franchises, with proven studios to improve our success ratio,” Zaslav added.

The Discovery President and CEO confirmed that Rocksteady is “looking to return to Batman for a single-player game,” but according to a report from Bloomberg, any such title will be years away due to the troubled development of other games.

Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman game is said to be in trouble after reportedly rebooting and switching directors early last year. It’s already cost more than $100million and is still years away from release, Bloomberg added.

Meanwhile, Gotham Knights developer WB Games Montreal pitched a John Constantine game but it was never approved. A Flash game was also scrapped after the DCU Flash film underperformed at the box office. The developer is now helping out with other titles and is reportedly working on a pitch for a new Game of Thrones game.

Reports of a new Batman game emerged in September 2024, when XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker stated in an X/Twitter post that Rocksteady would be returning to make it.

“Not sure which studio people’s dream is, but I heard Rocksteady are back making it. I also think Sony are trying to moneyhat it lol,” he wrote in response to The Game Awards account asking people to name their dream developer for a new Batman game.

Rocksteady is the studio behind the critically-acclaimed and fan-loved Batman Arkham series of games, which saw players step into the shoes of the caped crusader and save Gotham from various villains.
