A$AP Rocky gives update on long-awaited album ‘Don’t Be Dumb’: “I promise I got some new shit in store”

A$AP Rocky has shared an update on the development of his long anticipated fourth album, following his recent legal battle.

‘Don’t Be Dumb’, Rocky’s first since record since 2018’s ‘Testing’, was due for release last August, but was then delayed until autumn 2024 and has still not come to fruition.

Yesterday (February 28), the ‘LVL’ rapper shared an update with GQ, saying he was “in the mixing and mastering realm of it”.

“I think quite frankly, people are tired of hearing about updates about the album,” he said. “They’re just ready to get this shit, you know what I’m saying? I don’t think anybody wants to hear where I’m at with it, how far is it along and all that.

“They just want to hear some shit just to see where I’m at, and I promise I got some new shit in store. I’m challenging myself. It’s like anything, I approach it with a different tactic, degree, or finesse.”

“The album’s done,” he added. “I just want to drop it. I don’t want to keep saying what I’m going to do and I want to give people what I’ve been promising them for a long-ass fucking time.”

The update follows last week’s news that the rapper was found not guilty after a recent trial about his role in a shooting incident in 2021.

After a nearly month-long trial in Los Angeles, A$AP Rocky was found innocent on all counts by an LA jury after being charged for allegedly firing a gun at his former friend A$AP Relli in the Hollywood area in 2021. Rocky faced 24 years in prison after the rapper turned down a plea deal for 180 days in jail.

Over the course of the trial, his partner Rihanna showed up in court to support him and towards the end of the court case brought their kids along, prompting his lawyer to refute later claims the couple had done so as a “ploy” to win over the jury’s sympathy.

Once Rocky’s not guilty verdict was read, he jumped over a courthouse railing to hug Rihanna and his family before regaining his composure. It was reported that he had thanked the jury for “saving my life” following the verdict, and added that they “made the right decision”.

Sharing a brief statement on her Instagram Stories, Rihanna wrote of the verdict: “The glory belongs to God and God alone! Thankful, humbled by his mercy! 🙏🏿”.

Touching on his victory in the recent interview, the ‘Sundress’ artist said he felt “blessed”, adding that he felt “lucky” to have gone from “feeling like there was a chance that your freedom would be taken away from you, and then like a week later to be launching your creative direction announcement in Milan, Italy.”

Meanwhile, the man who accused the rapper of firing a semiautomatic pistol at him has said he will pursue a civil lawsuit, even after the rapper was found not guilty in court earlier this month.
