Adam Sandler’s hoodie stole Oscars night: “the GOAT of comedy”

Oscars

Adam Sandler had the Oscars audience and social media in hysterics as he showed up to the ceremony in a blue hoodie and shorts.

In what appeared to be a planned exchange, host Conan O’Brien talked about the importance of being dressed appropriately at the awards, which took place on Sunday (March 2) in Los Angeles, before singling out Sandler’s attire.

“Adam, what are you wearing?” asked O’Brien, as the camera cut to him sitting in the audience wearing a sky blue hoodie, dark blue shorts, white socks and trainers. Pretending to be outraged, Sandler replied: “Nobody even thought about what I was wearing until you brought it up”.

After being described by O’Brien as looking like “A guy playing video poker at 2am”, the comedian said: “I like the way I look. Because I’m a good person; I don’t care about what I wear and what I don’t wear (and that) my snazzy gym shorts and fluffy sweatshirt offend you so much that you had to mock me in front my peers!”

Sandler then walked out as the audience laughed along, blaming the host for his departure. “You’re all invited to a five-on-five game at Veteran Park,” he then claimed. “Midnight tip-off. The guy from Nosferatu (Bill Skarsgård) is on my team”.

He then stopped beside Timothée Chalamet, saying: “And one more thing, CHALAMET!” before giving the actor a hug. This was a reference to a joke at the Golden Globes where host Nikki Glaser said the star’s second name sounded like something Sandler would shout in a funny voice.

Viewers loved the appearance, with one user on X (formerly Twitter) posting that the star was “proving once again he’s the only guy who dresses like he’s about to mow the lawn instead of win an award”. Another described the outfit as “the most Adam Sandler shit i’ve ever seen”.

“Oscars 2025 is the best Oscars because… Sandler casually showed up in a hoodie” shared one fan, with another saying of him: “Greatest to ever do it”.

A tweet compared his look to “showing up to the office after calling in sick yesterday”, while another proclaimed: “#AdamSandler proved once again why he’s the GOAT of comedy. The actor, in his sky blue hoodie and shorts, had the whole Oscars crowd in tears (of laughter)”.

The awards saw Anora win five statuettes, including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actress.

As well as Sandler, host Conan O’Brien mocked nominee Karla Sofía Gascón’s tweeting controversy.
