Cypress Hill have announced that they will be releasing a live album of their show with the London Symphony Orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall.

Titled ‘Cypress Hill Black Sunday Live at the Royal Albert Hall’, the forthcoming release will immortalize the iconic hip-hop group’s collaboration with the London Symphony Orchestra which took place last July. The performance saw them reimagine their 1993 LP ‘Black Sunday’.

The live LP is set for release on June 6 via Mercury. The album’s first single – a reworking of their song ‘Illusions’ was shared today (February 26). You can check it out below.

Cypress Hill also announced that their one-night-only performance at the famous Royal Albert Hall will also be released as a concert film. The three-day theatrical event will be screened in both US and Canadian cinemas on March 30 and 31 and April 2 (for the US only). Screening dates for the UK and the rest of the world will be announced at a later time. You can visit here for tickets and more information on the film.

Last year, the group admitted that performing a show at the Royal Albert Hall with the London Symphony Orchestra, nearly 30 years after it was joked about on The Simpsons is “probably one of the biggest moments” for the band.

A 1996 episode of the cartoon series titled ‘Homerpalooza’ saw the group accidentally book a gig with the London Symphony Orchestra while high.

Speaking about the gig in a press release, conductor and arranger Troy Miller shared: “I’ve always been excited by the idea of merging genres, and to do it with the most prolific hip hop group of all time and the most exquisite symphony orchestra in the world was an honor! The band gave me free rein on the arrangements and we made something truly unique and mesmerizing – what a sublime collaboration!”

Cypress Hill’s B-Real also commented on the legendary collaboration and said: “It’s a trip to see that hip hop can be done in this form — and at a venue as prestigious as the Royal Albert Hall. It was truly an honor and a privilege, and now that experience can be shared.”

The group’s Sen Dog added: “It was amazing to take this journey with the people of London who supported Cypress Hill from day one,” with Eric Bobo also sharing: “LSO doesn’t collaborate with just anyone. So it’s a big honor for them to want to do something with us.”
