‘Always Sunny’ gang meet the staff of ‘Abbott Elementary’ in new crossover clip
Two sitcoms have collided in a new clip from Abbott Elementary, where they meet the cast of It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia for the first time.
In the clip, from Abbott Elementary’s season four episode Volunteers, the staff at the elementary school meet the misfits from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, who have arrived under the guise of being volunteers. Glenn Howerton’s character Dennis asks why their meeting is being filmed, and when told they are part of a show-within-a-show.
Teacher Ava (Janelle James) explains “We have like a Vanderpump thing going on, don’t worry about it”. However, upon hearing this Dennis angrily walks out of shot, saying “I think I’ll be spending my time on the other side of the camera thank you very much”.

A crossover has been teased for months and has been eagerly awaited by both sets of fans, with this episode serving as half of a two-episode crossover. The episode aired on January 8 in US, and will come to Disney+ in the UK later in the year. The second half, where the Abbott Elementary teachers find their way to Paddy’s Pub, will air sometimes in 2025 during It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia’s 17th season.
The clip drew praise from fans online, with one tweeting “I love both of these shows so much. It makes me happy to know that a new generation of abbot fans might just put on IASIP someday and go down that chaotic rabbit hole”. Another remarked “Abbott Elementary and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia is really one of the most necessary crossovers to be made”.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is currently the longest running live-action sitcom, with an army of loyal fans following the show ever since its 2005 debut. Despite this popularity, the cast of the Rob McElhenney-created hit appeared on last year’s Emmy awards to complain about the fact that they have never been nominated.
Recently, Ryan Reynolds revealed why McElhenney’s cameo was cut from 2024 hit Deadpool & Wolverine.
