Amanda Seyfried says she’s “looking forward” to a ‘Jennifer’s Body’ sequel

Amanda Seyfried has said she’s “ready” for a Jennifer’s Body sequel.

Released in 2009, and written by Oscar winner Diablo Cody (Juno), Seyfried played a nerdy highschooler whose cheerleader best friend (Megan Fox) becomes possessed. The film was not a financial or critical success, but has gained a cult following over time due to a reappraisal from fans and a Queer-friendly reading of the two leads’ friendship.

News of a potential sequel emerged earlier this year when, while attending the Toronto Film Festival for her upcoming project Seven Veils, Seyfried was filmed revealing that a part two is on the way.

“I think we’re making [a second] one,” she told fans while signing autographs. When asked if that was an official confirmation, she replied: “I didn’t confirm it… I said, ‘I think,’” before winking at the camera and saying: “We’re working on it. We’re working on it”.

Now, in a new interview with GQ, Seyfried has praised Jennifer’s Body, calling it a “perfect movie” that never saw the success it deserved due to its marketing strategy.

“I’m looking forward to the sequel. They’re working on it. I already said thumbs up. I was like, ‘Whenever you’re ready, I’m ready,’” she said. “We all just had a lot of fun, so I wanna celebrate it by doing a sequel.”

Reflecting on the original Karyn Kusama-directed, Diablo Cody-written film, Seyfriend said, “It’s got balls,” adding that it portrayed “a certain angst in a very, very specific, comedic way in a very specific genre.” She added, “There was everything you could want.

“If the critics criticize anything it would be the marketing. The marketing sucked. It just did. And we all agree,” Seyfried added. “The marketing team cheapened it like it was just, you know, a romp, a gory romp. I think they ruined it.”

Seyfried, Cody, and Fox have all expressed their love for the film over the years, as well as their enthusiasm to see a continuation. In 2021, Fox discussed the idea of rebooting it for TV.

“I don’t think it’s a hard movie to make a sequel to,” Fox told The Washington Post. “I mean, they should make it into a TV series. That would be cool”.
