Amyl & The Sniffers’ Amy Taylor hails “queer drag icon” Chappell Roan and “super strange and unusual” Charli XCX
Amyl & The Sniffers’ Amy Taylor has hailed Chappell Roan and Charli XCX.
Speaking in a new interview with Los Angeles Magazine ahead of her band’s Coachella 2025 set tomorrow (April 13), when asked about her thoughts on pop music, Taylor said: “I love pop music. I think, especially at the moment, there’s some really interesting stuff, like, even with Chappell Roan and Charli XCX. They’re big pop stars, but they’re also breaking so many boundaries for pop – Charli XCX is lyrically super strange and unusual. And Chappell is just like a queer drag icon.
She added: “At the moment, pop is in a really interesting space. Like we were talking about, the world is so crazy and it is a weird state of affairs, to say the least. And I think sometimes, tuning out with some pop music is kind of relieving. It’s like watching TV that isn’t like a documentary, but more like watching The Simpsons.”
When asked further about Charli and Lady Gaga, who are both performing at Coachella, Taylor said: “She’s [Charli] a freak, like, she’s a certified freaking up space in the mainstream, in pop. I think they are both like rockers and punkers in some ways. And I’m like, ‘Yeah, girls, you get it.’”

Gaga headlined the first night of Coachella 2025 last night (April 11) with a theatrical five-act set, complete with gothic visuals and a chess board dance battle, marking her first performance since her 2017 debut at the event. Check back here to see the latest Coachella updates.
Elsewhere, Bob Vylan recently shared a new version of ‘Dream Big’ featuring the Amyl & The Sniffers‘ frontwoman.
The track, which was renamed ‘Dream Bigger’, is similar to the original but instead it opens with Taylor’s spiky vocals before Bobby Vylan comes in. The single originally appeared on Bob Vylan’s 2024 album ‘Humble As The Sun’.
Later this summer, Amyl & The Sniffers will also be performing at Glastonbury 2025 alongside the likes of Biffy Clyro, The Maccabees, Lucy Dacus, Father John Misty, RAYE, Wolf Alice, The Prodigy, Doechii, St. Vincent, Deftones, Scissor Sisters, The Libertines, Wet Leg, Weezer, AJ Tracey, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Future Islands, JADE, TV On The Radio, Self Esteem, CMAT, Blossoms, Jorja Smith and Turnstile.
The Glastonbury 2025 ticket re-sale will take place later this month. You can find full details here.
