Anita Dobson shares health update on Brian May after stroke
Brian May‘s wife Anita Dobson has shared an update on the musician after he recently suffered a stroke.
The Queen guitarist, 77, told fans about the health scare in a post on social media earlier this month, but said he was on the road to recovery.
May explained that the “minor stroke” came on “all of a sudden, out of the blue”, and left him without any control over one of his arms. He said the incident was “a little scary” before recalling the “fantastic” medical care he’d received.
“The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” May told his followers, assuring them that he was doing “OK”.
Now, the guitarist’s wife – actor Anita Dobson (EastEnders) – has given an update on May’s current condition. Speaking to The Sun‘s ‘Bizarre’ column, she said (via Radio X): “He’s been told to rest. It’s hard to keep him resting, but he needs to, otherwise he won’t get well.”
Dobson, 75, continued: “He’s doing great – he’s on the road, he’s doing really, really well. We’re very pleased.
She went on to say that she was “completely confident” that her husband would “make a full recovery”.
Dobson added: “You have to take things slowly, chill a bit. He’s not that kind of animal! It’s good to keep a sense of humour.”
In his recent video update (watch above), May said: “I’m OK and doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing. I’m grounded, I’m not allowed to go out, drive, get on a plane, I’m not allowed to raise the heart rate too high. But I am good.”
In 2020, the musician was admitted to hospital after suffering a heart attack caused by an arterial disease. He told fans that he was “very near death” after doctors found he had three congested arteries.
Queen wrapped up a run of tour dates with Adam Lambert in February. They currently do not have any other concerts scheduled, meaning that May will have plenty of time to make a full recovery.
However, Queen Extravaganza, the official tribute band of Queen, are set to embark on a UK and Ireland tour in 2025. The upcoming shows will celebrate the 50th anniversary of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’.
In other news, Queen have announced a newly mixed, mastered and expanded reissue of their 1973 self-titled debut album.
