Anne Hathaway apologises to journalist for “dismissive” attitude during viral interview
Anne Hathaway has issued an apology to a journalist who conducted a disastrous interview with her in 2012 that has now gone viral.
The video shows Hathaway being interviewed by journalist Kjersti Flaa during a junket for Les Misérables and giving fairly brief answers. Flaa had asked various actors in the film to sing some of their answers, which Hathaway didn’t take very well to.
“Yesterday, I did receive an email. It was from Anne Hathaway’s publicist, and he forwarded a message to me from Anne Hathaway,” she said on her show Flaawsome Talk. “I have to say, I was pretty shocked. I had not expected her to reach out to me at all. I thought she was never gonna even see that video. But she did. And she did something pretty amazing.
Flaa added that her audience were divided over whether Hathaway was actively being rude or was just having a bad day.
After the interview, the journalist revealed Hathaway had since sent her “a long email explaining to me what she was going through right then when she did this interview, and she apologized for being…giving me an awful interview basically,” she said. “It was so touching to me. Just talking about it makes me almost teary eyed, ’cause I was just so grateful that she did that. And it was a very personal note. And we decided that I wouldn’t share exactly what was in the email, but I just wanted to share with you guys what she did.”
Hathaway had also asked her to interview her when her next film comes out.
“So, yes, I’m really looking forward to that, Anne,” Flaa said. “Thank you so much for doing that.”
In other news, Hathaway recently confirmed a third instalment of the Princess Diaries is coming.
Adapted from Meg Cabot’s novels, the much-loved first two films follow Hathaway’s Mia Thermopolis – an awkward teenager who learns she is the heir to the throne of the fictional nation Genovia.
Adele Lim (Joy Ride) is attached to direct and told Deadline in a statement: “As a die-hard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life.
“We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy, and mentorship with audiences worldwide.”
