Anne Hathaway Falls for a Harry Styles-Inspired Boy Band Star in New ‘The Idea of You’ Trailer: Watch

Move over, One Direction: There’s a new five-piece, British, hunky boy band in town. The makers of The Idea of You have shared the sultry romance film’s first trailer — featuring Anne Hathaway‘s character beginning a glamorous tryst with a 20-year-old Harry Styles-esque superstar — as well as the debut single of its fictional teen pop idols, August Moon.

In the clip released Wednesday (March 6), Hathaway, who plays a 40-year-old single mom named Solène, coincidentally runs into 24-year-old Hayes Campbell backstage at Coachella. Campbell, played by Nicholas Galitzine, is a smooth-talking, tattooed brunette who just so happens to be the lead singer of August Moon, which is only the “hottest boy band on the planet,” according to the film’s description.

From there, the pair embark on a whirlwind romance that quickly invites criticism from the public. “What about what people will say?” Solène asks Hayes during an intimate moment in the teaser, to which he replies, “I don’t care what they say.”

In addition to the trailer, The Idea of You has unveiled “Dance Before We Walk,” one of the songs performed by August Moon in the flick. The uptempo dance track sounds like it was pulled straight from 2014 pop radio, and even features a possible nod to the boy band’s apparent real-life inspiration in the lyrics: “I think I need a new direction lately,” sings one of the fictional group’s members.

The single will be featured on August Moon’s upcoming album, which will be released closer to The Idea of You‘s premiere via Arista Records. The film will debut March 16 at SXSW Festival before arriving on Prime Video May 2.

The Idea of You was inspired by Robinne Lee’s 2017 novel of the same name. During the pandemic, the book experienced a spike in popularity, with many fans immediately clocking the similarities between August Moon and One Direction, and Hayes Campbell and Harry Styles.

Lee has been open about how 1D and the “As It Was” singer inspired her novel, although she told Vogue in 2020, “This was never supposed to be a book about Harry Styles.”

The author added, “It was supposed to be a story about a woman approaching 40 and reclaiming her sexuality and rediscovering herself, just at the point that society traditionally writes women off as desirable and viable and whole.”
