Antony Starr is glad ‘The Boys’ is ending: “I don’t like seeing things outstay their welcome”

The Boys actor Antony Starr has shared that he is “glad” the show is ending with the forthcoming season.

The New Zealand actor has played the villainous John Gillman/Homelander since the show’s debut in 2019, also appearing in spin-offs The Boys Presents: Diabolical and Gen V. The fifth season, due in 2026, will be the Amazon show’s finale.

During an interview with Collider promoting his new film G20, Starr was asked what how he feels about the final season and what fans can expect.

“It’s strange because as much as I love the show, I don’t like seeing things outstay their welcome, so I’m kind of glad we’re finishing at five” he replied. “That said, I love the show and the characters, so it’s a bittersweet moment”.

While he didn’t reveal any plot points, he talked about his impression of the season’s script and what he felt fans can expect from the ending. “The script, I’ve got to say, in typical Boys fashion… I never see it coming with this show! Every time I think I know what’s going to happen, something else happens”.

He continued: “This was no exception, I’m six deep I haven’t seen the finale… but I know what happens, and I think fans are going to be either surprised or shocked depending on their nervous system, but very, very entertained”.

The fifth season was announced on May 14, 2024, and confirmed as the final season on June 11 the same year. Main cast members Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, and more are all set to reprise their roles one last time.

Recently, The Boys star Quaid discussed his dream role playing the live action version of a character from a video game, describing himself as a gaming “nerd”.
