Arcade Fire announce new album ‘Pink Elephant’ on fan club app

Arcade Fire have announced their brand new album ‘Pink Elephant’ – see all the details below.

Just days ago, the band officially began teasing their comeback after cryptically updating their bio earlier in March, sharing their new single and video for ‘Cars And Telephones’ through their fan club app on April 4.

But around 9pm yesterday (April 7), Win Butler and Régine Chassagne of Arcade Fire made a giant announcement. Posting a radio mix, the pair ended the session by playing ‘Year Of The Snake’ and announcing their new album in the last few seconds of the mix.

“This is Win and Regime from Arcade Fire,” they said. “Our new record is called ‘Pink Elephant’ and it’s out on May 9. Keep it here inside the Circle of Trust. Take care of each other.”

They also announced ‘The Year Of The Snake’ would be “out tomorrow, but here in the circle of trust, today is tomorrow. Thank you for spending a little time with us – I know time is the one thing you can’t buy, so quit your job, call your best friend. It’s a season of change, and if you feel strange, it’s probably good.”

You can listen to the new song via their fan club app, or listen to the track’s live debut at Willie Nelson’s Luck festival (at 17 minutes 15 seconds):

Arcade Fire kicked off their new campaign rollout when Butler teamed up with David Byrne and St. Vincent for a rendition of David Bowie‘s ‘Heroes’ during the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Saturday Night Live.

‘Pink Elephant’ will be the band’s first new album since allegations of sexual misconduct arose against Butler. Four people came forward to accuse the singer of inappropriate behaviour, and the accusations also led to Feist leaving their tour early.

Butler replied to the allegations in a lengthy statement of his own, claiming he was “very sorry to anyone who I have hurt with my behaviour” but maintaining that “these relationships were all consensual”.

In other news, Arcade Fire have announced their only ‘Funeral’ 20th anniversary show for North America at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
