‘Assassin’s Creed’ will reportedly release 10 games in next 5 years

It’s been reported that Ubisoft plans to release ten Assassin’s Creed games in the next five years.

Gaming journalist Tom Henderson appeared on the XB2 Podcast recently and spoke about the future of Ubisoft. The studio recently announced a number of job cuts after a tough financial quarter due to the delay of Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the poor sales of Star Wars: Outlaws.

According to Henderson, Ubisoft is “in a tricky spot at the moment” and is hoping to “capitalise on the franchise as much as possible. They plan to do a new Assassin’s Creed every six months or so for the next five years.”

“They’re not all RPGs though,” he explained with the Fall Guys-inspired free-to-play shooter Invictus, mobile game Jade and a remake of Black Flag all potentially releasing next year, alongside mainline title Assassin’s Creed: Shadows. There’s also the horror-inspired Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe due at some point in the future.

However Henderson did add that due to the delay of Shadows, that timeline has been altered slightly. “They’re trying to take that Call Of Duty approach,” with Activision releasing a yearly mainline title alongside a number of mobile games and the free-to-play Call Of Duty: Warzone.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows was originally meant to release later this month but will now come out February 14. “We realise we need more time to polish and refine the experience, pushing further some of our key features,” said developers at the time.

In a note to investors, Ubisoft added that the game was “feature complete,” but the “learnings from the Star Wars Outlaws release led us to provide additional time to further polish the title.”

Earlier this year, Ubisoft was criticised for its “cowardly apology” after the inclusion of “Japan’s First Black Samurai” drew criticism for its historical inaccuracy, despite leading historians saying there is no debate about Yasuke’s status as a samurai.
