‘Baldur’s Gate 3’ gets accidental update that might ruin your game
Baldur’s Gate 3 developers accidentally launched the eagerly awaited Patch 8 update earlier than planned – and it could ruin your game.
On Monday night (January 27), a number of Baldur’s Gate 3 players across Europe and Asia were able to download the new patch 8 after developers accidentally put it live early. Larian removed it after a few hours but are now warning players their save data might be in trouble.
Taking to the official Baldur’s Gate 3 website, they wrote: “You might’ve noticed that some PS5 players logged on earlier today and found that Patch 8 was available to them. Our partners have confirmed that some regions mistakenly received the Patch 8 build as an update to their live game version, in preparation for the Patch 8 stress test. This version of Patch 8 is not supported, and you may experience compatibility issues with savegames and mods.”
No, the Patch 8 stress test hasn’t yet begun.
Yes, PS5 players do currently have access to Patch 8.While we work with our partners to understand what’s going on, please note that any new saves made while on Patch 8 will not be compatible with Patch 7.

People running the early version of Patch 8 won’t receive updates and bug fixes until the update is properly launched. “Any new saves made on Patch 8 are not compatible with the Patch 7 version of the game, which means if you create a new save or override an existing save while on Patch 8, you won’t be able to continue using this save if you revert to Patch 7, and we cannot guarantee saves made in this version will remain compatible when Patch 8 is released,” explained developers.
“Mods may not be compatible with this particular game version, and you may experience performance issues.”
Players can check which version of Baldur’s Gate 3 they’re playing by checking the number in the bottom right corner of the Main Menu. “If you are on version 01.800.000 or 4.1.1.6583053, this is the Patch 8 version. Anything below this number, and you should still be on Patch 7, as intended.” If affected, players have been advised to uninstall then reinstall the game.
Patch 8 is the final major update planned for Baldur’s Gate 3, with developers working on two new projects that will be “even better” than what the studio has released before. The “very ambitious” new RPGs will be based on fresh IPs.
In other news, the next God Of War game could take place in ancient Egypt, according to a new report.
