Beetlejuice Makes His Grand Return to Winter River in Eerie ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’ Trailer

No need to say his name three times, because the Beetlejuice Beetlejuice official teaser trailer arrived on Thursday (March 21).

The one-minute clip features a glimpse of the returning and new characters, including Wednesday star Jenna Ortega taking on the role of Astrid, the daughter of the iconic Lydia Deetz played by Winona Ryder, who is reprising her role. Catherine O’Hara is also returning as Delia Deetz, and the three generations of the Deetz family — Delia, Lydia and Astrid — are seen at a funeral at the start of the trailer.

“Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia’s life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened,” the description of the Tim Burton-directed series reads, as is seen in the teaser clip when Michael Keaton’s Beetlejuice makes his grand entrance after Lydia finds the unearthed model. “With trouble brewing in both realms, it’s only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice’s name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.”

The trailer is soundtracked by a spooky, slowed down rendition of Harry Belafonte’s “Day-O,” which was famously featured in the original 1988 film, when a ghostly couple played by Geena Davis and Alec Baldwin haunt a family that moves into their home, and forcing them to perform the classic track with their paranormal abilities.

“The relationship between Lydia and Astrid, my character, is very important,” Ortega previously told Vanity Fair of the upcoming sequel. “And it’s also really strange because it’s a lot of catching up and putting the pieces together of what’s gone on in Lydia’s life since, which is nice, I think, for anybody who loves the character and is excited to see her again.”

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters on Sept. 6. Watch the teaser trailer below.
