Benson Boone apologises for “aggressive” crotch grab during Grammys performance

Benson Boone performs onstage at the 67th annual GRAMMY Awards

Benson Boone has apologised for his “aggressive” crotch grab during his performance at the 2025 Grammys.

The moment took place on Sunday night (February 2), when the singer-songwriter took to the stage at the 67th Awards ceremony to perform his hit single ‘Beautiful Things’.

Boone kicked off the set by being positioned in the audience, where Heidi Klum and Nikki Glaser ripped off his tuxedo to reveal an extravagant blue jumpsuit underneath. From there, he took to the stage to perform the song and pulled off his signature party trick at the end – doing a flip from a piano.

During the set, however, one talking point came when the singer was caught on camera grabbing his crotch before taking a bow at the end of the song. Before long, the moment went viral with many viewers poking fun at the gesture.

Now, the singer has taken to social media to explain why he made the move during the set, and issue a lighthearted apology to viewers.

“Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight,” the singer wrote on his Stories, also sharing a selfie. “That thing was extremely restricting in certain areas.”

That wasn’t the only viral moment on the night, as other talking points came from Kanye West, who arrived on the red carpet with his wife Bianca Censori wearing an entirely see-through dress, and Taylor Swift, who was seen in the audience dancing to Billie Eilish’s live rendition of ‘Birds Of A Feather’.

Elsewhere, Kendrick Lamar got the most awards on the night – taking home five trophies for Record of The Year, Song Of The Year, Best Rap Performance, Best Rap Song and Best Music Video – and Beyoncé took home the Album Of The Year victory for the first time with her ‘Cowboy Carter’ record.

Other talking points included St. Vincent revealing that she is married and has a daughter at the event, and Kacey Musgraves going viral for seemingly throwing shade at Beyoncé during the ceremony – something which her team has dismissed.

On the night, Boone was up for the Best New Artist Award, but lost out to pop star and former NME Cover star Chappell Roan.
