Beyoncé has launched her own brand of whiskey, made in tribute to her great-grandfather.

Branded as SirDavis, the new drink is named after the singer’s paternal great-grandfather, Davis Hogue, who was a farmer and moonshiner in the American South during the Prohibition era.

Although it is an American Whiskey, finished, blended, and bottled in Texas, it takes inspiration from Scotch whiskey and Japanese whiskey – with the singer being a particular fan of the latter.

Coming in as a split of 51 per cent rye and 49 per cent barley, the spirit underwent a secondary maturation in sherry casks and also arrives as part of a new partnership Bey has launched with Moët Hennessy.

“I’ve always been drawn to the power and confidence I feel when drinking quality whiskey and wanted to invite more people to experience that feeling,” Beyoncé said in a new statement (via Line Of Best Fit).

“When I discovered that my great-grandfather had been a moonshine man, it felt like my love for whiskey was fated. SirDavis is a way for me to pay homage to him, uniting us through a new shared legacy,” she added.

“In partnering with Moët Hennessy, we have crafted a delicious American whiskey that respects tradition but also empowers people to experience something new and unique in the category. You can taste it better than I could ever tell you — welcome, SirDavis.”

As highlighted by Harper’s Bazaar, SirDavis has been a long time in the making. The idea arose years ago when the pop star reached out to Moët Hennessy, asking to craft a whiskey with a unique flavour that matched her own palate.

With its completion, it marks the brand’s first American Spirit to be developed entirely in-house Stateside, and it also comes as a nod to Bey’s Texan roots.

SirDavis is available for pre-sale now, priced at £79 per bottle, and orders are set to dispatch from September 4. Visit here for more information.

With her venture into the whiskey market, the project follows on from Bey’s other entrepreneurial ventures over the past year – including her haircare line, Cécred and Cé Noir perfume.

As for her music career, since the start of 2024, Bey has made countless headlines for the huge success of her country-inspired album ‘Cowboy Carter’.

Shortly after it arrived, it hit countless milestones, including making Beyoncé the first Black woman to reach Number One on the US country chart with ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’, the first Black woman to score a Number One country album in the US charts, and gathering support from huge names including Michelle Obama and Paul McCartney.

The star shared a remix of ‘Texas Hold ‘Em’ too, and revealed that she kept much of the original backing track from the original 1968 version of ‘Blackbird’ in her cover. She also confirmed that Stevie Wonder played harmonica on ‘Jolene’, and RAYE was credited as a co-writer on one ‘Cowboy Carter’ song.

More recently, the ‘Single Ladies’ singer has openly shown her support of renowned US gymnast Simone Biles amid the 2024 Paris Olympics – recording a promotional video for NBC Sports, hailing her as both “inspiring” and “brilliant”.
