Big Sean Responds to Alleged Album Leak by Teasing The Alchemist Collab: ‘I’ma Just Start Droppin’
Big Sean is the latest subject of a leak after someone allegedly released a 14-track body of work that’s said to be a version of the Detroit rapper’s upcoming album. Sean Don didn’t waste any time in responding to the leak, getting on the offensive as he teased an upcoming collaboration with The Alchemist on Wednesday (July 17).
“I’m a just start droppin this new music before they leak it all BIG SEAN x THE ALCHEMIST soon,” he captioned an Instagram post.
The accompanying clip finds Sean rhyming over Alchemist’s soulful production, and they appear to have a visual ready to go with the rapper and producer kicking it in the grass fields.
“Pushin the V and it’s not for vendetta/ I’m hungry as ever but somehow I’m fed up/ A smooth operator I could connect ya/ I only love a few I gotta protect ya,” he raps.
Big Sean caused a stir on social media with subliminal bars from his “On the Radar Freestyle” on Wednesday, which some believed to be shots at Kendrick Lamar, while others such as DJ Hed insinuated he was sniping at Ye (formerly known as Kanye West).
“I talked to Sean. The bar was ‘I got better things to do then find someone to beef with’ And it was not for Dot,” Hed tweeted. “Bar was directed at a different Gemini.” (Ye’s June 8 birthday makes him a Gemini.)
Big Sean had been signed to Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music label for 14 years before announcing his departure in October 2021. The move came just prior to when West called signing Sean “the worst thing I’ve ever done” during a Drink Champs interview in November 2021.
A person online going by the handle Bigseandon811 didn’t appear to appreciate what they perceived to be disrespect of Ye in the freestyle, and took it upon themself to allegedly leak the album. Billboard has reached out to reps for Big Sean.
“Since he wanna disrespect Ye so much, here’s the album, f–k him and his whole team,” the leaker wrote, according to Variety.
Variety also found the leaked files, and reported that a track titled “Nintendo Switch Superstar” features the same Willie Hutch sample that Usher used on “Superstar.” Other guest appearances reportedly include Charlie Wilson and Brent Faiyaz.
Big Sean notched three consecutive No. 1 albums atop the Billboard 200 with 2020’s Detroit 2 serving as the last LP. He made his return earlier this year with “Precision,” and appeared as a guest on tracks with Eminem and Jessie Reyez.
The 36-year-old will be able to call himself an author come October when his Go Higher book promoting mental wellness arrives. As far as his untitled upcoming album, the project remains without a firm release date, but might be bumped up due to the recent leaks.
