An actor known for her role in the TV show Black Mirror is reportedly suing a gym chain for £100,000 after her mother overheated and died in one of their saunas.

Milanka Brooks played Elena Tulaska in the episode USS Callister in 2017, as well as appearing in the royal parody The Windsors in 2020 and two series of Benidorm in the mid-2010s. The Sun reports that her mother, Mileva, died three days after collapsing at the Everlast Gym in Cheltenham in August 2022. She was 75.

The report goes on to allege she died from the effects of heatstroke after being “found unresponsive in the sauna”, according to testimony at an inquest. High Court papers revealed that Brooks is suing the gym for “personal injury and consequential losses” under the Fatal Accidents Act 1976.

Regarding the loss, Brooks posted on her Instagram, saying that her mother “You remain the light and inspiration of my life, and your fire burns fiercely inside of me”. Previous posts describe her as her “silver lining” and “partner in crime”.

Brooks will next be seen reprising her roles as Elena Tulaska in the seventh season of Black Mirror. Episode six, USS Callister: Into Infinity, is a sequel to the classic season four sci-fi adventure. Starring Jesse Plemons as Robert Daly, that episode revolved around the reclusive programmer’s creation of a simulated reality in which he served as a Captain Kirk–like figure commanding a crew based on his real-life co-workers.

Asynopsis of the follow up says: “Robert Daly is dead, but now the crew of the USS Callister – led by Captain Nanette Cole – are stranded in an infinite virtual universe, fighting for survival against 30 million players”.

As well as Plemons and Brooks, the episode stars Cristin Milioti, Billy Magnussen (Karl Plowman), Paul G. Raymond (Kabir Dudani). It has been directed by Toby Haynes (Andor) and co-written by series creator Charlie Brooker, Bisha K. Ali, William Bridges, and Bekka Bowling.
