‘Black Myth: Wukong’ update confirms reasons for Xbox delay
Black Myth: Wukong has launched to resounding success on PC and PlayStation, but its Xbox version is nowhere to be seen. Now we know why.
Black Myth: Wukong developer Game Science claimed the game, which was due to launch on Xbox alongside PC and PlayStation, was delayed because the team was “currently optimising” the Xbox version in order to “to meet our quality standards.”
According to a comment given to Forbes, by Microsoft, the company “can confirm that the delay is not due to Xbox platform limitations that have been raised to us.” This is referring to speculation that Black Myth: Wukong is delayed due to the need for feature parity on Series X and the less powerful Series S console, something developers have complained about in the past.
Microsoft have not explained what exactly is delaying the game coming out on Xbox, but the statement implies it is due to some sort of exclusivity deal between Game Science and Sony. “As we have said before, we’re excited for the launch of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms,” it reads. “We’d prefer not to comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders”.
Baldur’s Gate 3 was delayed on Xbox due to the need for feature parity across the Series X and Series S, something which Xbox walked back so the hit-game could come to its consoles faster. Xbox boss Phil Spencer said: “We’re going to learn from this experience as well because we don’t love that.”
In other news, there’s a big Baldur’s Gate 3 update coming sometime this week, and it’s adding a new dynamic splitscreen feature, official modding toolkit, and many bug fixes.
