‘Black Ops 6’ finally gets much-requested update to stop cheats
Call Of Duty has shared the patch notes for Black Ops 6’s upcoming season three – and it includes a long-requested feature to stop cheats.
Black Ops 6 season three goes live tomorrow (April 3). The update will see new multiplayer maps, game modes and story expansions added to the game, alongside some bug fixes, new weapons and additions to Zombies. You can check out the full patch notes here.
Activision has also confirmed a major change to cross-play. As it stands, multiplayer matches currently involve players from Xbox, PlayStation and PC but season three will allow players to enable “console-only cross-play”, meaning matches will only involve PlayStation and Xbox users.
A number of players have been requesting this feature for a long time due to the ease in which aim-assist bots and other cheats can be installed onto PCs, giving those players an unfair advantage. “I like this. Every cheater I encounter seems to be on PC,” wrote one player. “Wonderful news,” added another. “Shit, now I can’t call people cheaters when I die,” said another console player.

However Activision has warned enabling console-only cross-play in Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 “may negatively impact matchmaking queue times”. A number of PC gamers are also worried this new update will “kill” the game.
“I’m happy for console players because of obvious reasons, but as a PC player this sucks. Less players overall in lobbies means higher chances of playing cheaters for legit PC players. Hope they can come out with some big [anti-cheat engine]Ricochet changes soon,” wrote one player on Reddit.
“This should not be celebrated, this is the easy way out. What they should do is develop an effective anti cheat, but instead they are just slowly cutting off the PC player base and throwing them to the wolves. This is not fair to people who bought the game on PC and aren’t cheating,” said another. “This is Activision putting a death sentence on PC Call Of Duty,” added a third.
Warzone players are also set to see the return of OG map Verdansk this month, however some are worried about how much it will be changed.
Last month it was confirmed that the launch of Black Ops 6’s season three would be delayed by two weeks to allow developers more time to “deliver a great experience”.
In other news, The Last Of Us showrunner Craig Mazin has confirmed that the HBO series won’t use ideas from the scrapped Part 3 game.
