‘Bury’ the Lead: Kane Brown Banks 10th No. 1 on Country Airplay Chart
Kane Brown’s “Bury Me in Georgia” hops from No. 4 to No. 1 in its 29th week on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart (dated Sept. 16). In the tracking week ending Sept. 7, it increased by 11% to 29.3 million impressions, according to Luminate.
Brown wrote the song with Josh Hoge, Matt McGinn and Jordan Schmidt.
Brown claims his 10th Country Airplay leader, among 11 top 10s. He earns his fifth straight No. 1 on the chart, the longest active run among all artists currently charting. Luke Combs rattled off a record 14 consecutive No. 1 singles from the start of his career before “The Kind of Love We Make” peaked at No. 2 in September 2022; he has since started a new streak of three chart-toppers in a row, the second-longest active run. On the Sept. 9 chart, Combs added his 17th leader, “Love You Anyway,” now at No. 2.
Brown led Country Airplay most recently with “Thank God,” with his wife Katelyn Brown, for a week in February. Before that, he reigned with “Like I Love Country Music” (August 2022), “One Mississippi” (March 2022) and “Famous Friends,” with Chris Young (July 2021), also for a week each. He first ruled the chart with “What Ifs,” featuring Lauren Alaina, in October 2017.
Meanwhile, Jason Aldean racks up his 37th Country Airplay top 10 as “Try That in a Small Town” lifts 11-10, up 13% to 21.7 million impressions. He ties Reba McEntire for the eighth-most top 10s since the chart began in 1990; George Strait leads with 61.
The song went viral following the July 14 premiere of its controversial video, which CMT pulled after three days in rotation. It re-entered the streaming-, airplay- and sales-based Hot Country Songs chart dated July 29 (following a week on the survey, at No. 35, in early June) and led for two weeks, marking his first No. 1 since 2014. It also gave Aldean his first No. 1 on the all-genre Billboard Hot 100.
