Cam’ron Responds to Cuban Link Alleging He Stole the ‘Horse & Carriage’ Chorus
Cam’ron has responded to former Terror Squad rapper Cuban Link alleging that Cam and Mase stole the chorus to Cam’s early hit song “Horse & Carriage.”
Cuban Link told the story of how he originally came up with the hook in a resurfaced clip of his Link & Panda Show podcast. He explained that he was riding in an elevator “kickin’ rhymes’ with Big Pun and Mase” and he sang an interpolation of Dezi Arnaz’s song “Cuban Cabby.”
The former Terror Squad rapper then revealed that he got the idea from one of Eddie Murphy’s jokes in his stand-up special Delirious.
“I had that for like six years. That was supposed to be my single and I was gonna use that as my hook,” he said. “Mase was like, ‘That sh– hard.’ Next thing I see is ‘Horse & Carriage’ with Cam, Mase, Pun. Remember that? And what was the hook?”
Pun was a guest feature on the song’s remix alongside Charli Baltimore, Silkk the Shocker and Wyclef, so Cuban is referring to the original from Cam’s debut album Confessions of Fire.
And while Cam originally laughed at the idea, he admitted that it was possible that the hook was lifted because the idea apparently came from his old label boss Lance “Un” Rivera. “I have no idea what Cuban Link is talking about as far as Mase overhearing his hook and Mase stealing the hook,” he said. “This is what I will tell Cuban Link, though: If you sang your hook in front of Lance ‘Un’ Rivera, then you may have a case, ’cause Un came up with that hook.”
“‘Un’ Rivera is the one who came up saying he wanted to sing the Ricky Ricardo hook. He was singing that sh– all the time.. We did the record and he was like, ‘Call your man.’ And ‘Un’ actually walked him through the hook. So, shout-out to Cuban Link. If you ever sang that hook in front of Lance ‘Un’ Rivera, you may have an argument. But Mase didn’t come up with that hook.”
