Cancer Christ frontman Anthony Mehlhaff arrested after “terrorising” incidents at US national park
Cancer Christ frontman Anthony Mehlhaff has been arrested after a series of alleged incidents at Yosemite National Park.
Mehlhaff was detained last Wednesday (August 21) and has since been charged with vandalism, vehicle theft, reckless driving, kidnapping, theft, first-degree burglary, robbery, obstructing an officer and battery.
His arrest came after a series of incidents which started at a restaurant in the Buck Meadows area of Mariposa County.
“Mehlhaff then stole several drinks, assaulted another employee of the restaurant and sped off in his vehicle towards Yosemite National Park,” according to Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese [via the Los Angeles Times].
Briese went on to say that the frontman stripped to his underwear and attempted to kidnap a store manager by stealing his car before ramming it into another vehicle.
He was then taken into custody just outside the town of Oakhurst before he allegedly assaulted a number of officers at a local hospital.
“This man drove all around our county terrorising our visitors and community members,” Briese added in a statement. “I am extremely happy that no one was seriously injured. This man’s behaviour was erratic and dangerous.”
Mehlhaff is being held on $100,000 (£75,822) bail as of Friday (August 23). He is yet to comment on the charges athough a recorded message on his voicemail told law enforcement and mental health specialists to stop trying to contact him and “fuck off”, according to the LA Times.
His band were set to be open for GWAR on a run of US dates in September but were later replaced after a series of posts on Cancer Christ’s Instagram page, including a photo of Christ sporting a “FUCK GWAR” tattoo, according to Consequence.
GWAR meanwhile recently shared an intergalactic metal cover of ‘I’m Just Ken’ from the Barbie movie.
