The comments from the rapper come following Joe Biden announcing his exit from the presidential race this past weekend (July 21), and it later being confirmed that Vice President Kamala Harris would be representing the Democratic party in the upcoming election.
The 81-year-old plans to serve out the remainder of his term in office, which ends at noon on January 20, 2025. He immediately endorsed Harris to be the next president of the US, and explained that the decision was made “in the best interest of my party and the country”.
A host of stars soon came out to respond to his departure, including Ariana Grande, Lizzo and Barbra Streisand, and a plethora of famous faces came forward to back Harris, including John Legend, George Takei, Jamie Lee Curtis and Charli XCX.
Now, Cardi B has come forward to remind her listeners that she has been supporting the idea of having Harris as president long before Biden pulled out of the 2024 race.
Taking to her social media pages on Sunday (July 21), the ‘WAP’ singer reflected on the updates, and shared clips from a past livestream which saw her reflect on the political landscape at the time.
“I feel like it was very selfish of Biden [to] continue to run for President,” she is heard saying in the old clips, which were posted last month. “They should’ve passed the torch to Kamala. This was the perfect moment for her.”
Looking back at her stance, as well as the turn of events since then, Cardi used the caption to explain to fans how she predicted Harris representing the Democratic party. “STOP PLAYING WIT ME!!!! Check the date.. said this on JUNE 30TH!” she wrote.
“Been told y’all Kamala should’ve been the 2024 candidate. Y’all be trying to play the Bronx education, baby this what I do!!! Been my passion.. don’t let my accent fool y’all.”
Cardi B’s support for the Vice President in her bid to become the next POTUS comes after her openly criticising Biden in the past – despite endorsing him in his 2020 electoral campaign. Part of this came from the way that the politician approached the Israel-Hamas war, which the rapper told Rolling Stone made her “feel like people got betrayed”.
Since it was announced that Harris would be representing the Democratic Party, outlets including Stereogum have reported that the politician’s campaign has raised a reported $81million in the 24 hours since Biden dropped out. If that figure is true, it will be the largest single-day total raised by any candidate in US history.
Since then, her team has honed in on the support from Charli XCX and launched a new Twitter banner in the style of the artist’s ‘Brat’ artwork – which led to CNN having to explain the ‘Brat Summer’ trend to its viewers.
Similarly, social media has been reacting to Chadwick Boseman’s final Twitter post, which voiced support for Kamala Harris, and TikTok star Harry Daniels caught Harris off-guard by serenading her with a rendition of Beyoncé’s ‘Formation’.
