Cardinals share brooding new single ‘Get It’ and announce New York shows

Cardinals have released their new single ‘Get It’ and announced details of a UK tour to take place later this year.

The Cork five-piece released their self-titled debut EP in June via So Young Records, and now have followed that up with ‘Get It’, a brooding, melodic tune that showcases frontman Euan Manning’s raspy, melancholic vocals.

Watch the video for the track below:

Manning has said about ‘Get It’: “To me it’s a song about reflection, looking at what went wrong but also at what went right. The worst and the best. Its climax crowns love as an overwhelmingly positive force, whichever type of love that may be. It’s a change of pace for us and definitely feels like a bridging moment for what’s to come next.”

The Irish band have also announced a far-ranging UK and European tour that will kick off at the Here’s The Thing Festival in the Netherlands on October 12, and take in a total of 17 dates, before they round off the year with a pair of shows in New York.

NME spoke to Cardinals ahead of the release of the EP earlier this year about how they feel their sound is developing. “I think you want to be out of your comfort zone as much as you can,” Manning said. “I’d hate to think that we’ve become lax and settled into something. It’s good to have a sound, obviously, but we want to keep pushing forward. There’s a whole spectrum of feeling – and I want to capture that.”

The band were also namechecked by Kneecap in a recent interview with NME when discussing the best new bands in Ireland at the moment. “For a long time, Ireland has looked elsewhere for inspiration for art and creating music,” the Belfast trio’s Móglaí Bap said.

“Now, we’re looking inwards and giving recognition to the standard of artists we have and what we can provide to the world. You’ve got Fontaines, The Mary Wallopers, Lankum, CMAT, GurriersCardinals – there are so many different genres and things happening.”
