Carmy and Syd won’t get together in ‘The Bear’, says Jeremy Allen White
The Bear season three will not feature a romance between Carmy and Syd, say cast members at panel interview.
The Emmy-winning series returns for its third season tomorrow (June 26) on Hulu and FX at 9pm ET, with all episodes being added to Disney+ at 2am BST (June 27).
The cast of the popular restaurant drama announced the show’s earlier-than-planned release at a press conference yesterday (June 24), where they also shared some details about the highly-anticipated third season.
Many fans have speculated over whether a romance might blossom between two of the series’ protagonists, head chef Carmy and his sous, Syd. According to IndieWire, one of the first questions aimed at actors Jeremy Allen White and Ayo Edebiri was about whether their characters’ relationship had romantic undertones. They replied simply: “No.”
Another relationship which was addressed during the panel was that between Carmy and his colleague, family friend and “cousin”, Richie, played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach.
“They’re great now,” Moss-Bachrach said, sharing that their relationship will develop in season three. White added: “Carmy is continuing to do what he does best, which is be incredibly avoidant of all the issues.”
Also at the panel was the show’s executive producer and co-writer Matty Matheson, who also plays the loveable mechanic and childhood friend of Carmy and Richie, Neil Fak.
Matheson said about the storytelling in season three: “There’s little pieces that you grab on to in life and that’s what makes you who you are, the good and the bad.
“It is a trade, and so I think picking up these little skills along the way, you never stop learning who you are made of, the people around you. We wanted to tell a story of what and how Carmy was kind of built in that way.”
Edebiri, who won an Emmy, a Golden Globe and a SAG Award for her performance as the driven and innovative Syd, will also direct episode six of season three, titled ‘Napkins’. The Inside Out 2 star shared that it was an episode that she and the series creator Chris Storer had in mind for her.
In other news, Edebiri spoke recently about the time her dad refused to let Martin Scorsese shoot his film in their family home.
