The longtime executive worked with The Rolling Stones and Billy Joel at the storied label before going on to launch a series of music business ventures.
“Tonight, with full but broken hearts, we must share the news of our father and brother Quincy Jones’ passing,” the family said in a statement.
"We are reminded once again of the power of music and how encouraging it can be to be around people that you love," said The Flaming Lips' frontman Wayne Coyne.
"We are shocked, saddened, and heartbroken," Tito's sons said in a statement.
PEOPLE confirmed the news with Tito’s nephew, Siggy Jackson.
"What a great life and career for a poor kid from the Bronx who loved to laugh and dream big," Jeff Robinson wrote in a tribute.
BeatKing's passing was confirmed on Aug. 15, by his manager, Tasha Felder.
